U.S. Military Secrets for Sale in an Afghan Bazaar

Why were secret military files being sold on a Afghan Bazaar? And why did it take the Los Angeles Times to report the incident before our military took action to retrieve the sensitive data? Computer flash drives were purchased from merchants without knowing how they ended up in the hands of the local population. And could these drives have gotten into the hands of al Qaeda or the Taliban. Not to mention identity thieves that would've had access to hundreds of social security numbers. In some cases the data in the drives included the names, photographs, and telephone numbers of spies informing on the Taliban. Despite the military attempt to retrieve all the drives many are still available for purchase to anyone - including al Qaeda. With this latest security fiasco, Is it any wonder that we can't stop the insurgency in Afghanistan or Iraq.
