The Taliban is Making a Comeback
The news in Iraq is not good. And it isn't just negative reporting as is claimed by the White House and their apologists. ABC reported tonight how 30,000 Iraqis have fled their homes as a result of the sectarian violence. These families are facing the same kind ethnic cleansing we saw in Bosnia a few years back. One Iraqi professor described it as only the beginning. These Iraqis are refugees in their country reminiscent of the worst days of the Saddam regime. All of this happening under the very noses of a U.S. occupation.
But even more shocking is the return of the "resurgence" of the Taliban in Afghanistan. Today, the very same group we forced out of power in 2001 made a "brazen" attack on a U.S. base. ABC reporter, Gretchen Peters, called it the first of its kind on a U.S. military base in Afghanistan. She said the Taliban was being funded by drug money that was "pouring" into the coffers of the Taliban. With our attention being diverted by the war Iraq we are paying little attention to Afghanistan. Now we are losing both wars.
