My Cynthia McKinney Conspiracy Theory

It seems too much of a coincidence. Model Naomi Campbell was arrested for throwing a cell phone at her housekeeper. Cynthia McKinney could possibly face criminal charges for hitting a Capitol police officer with a cell phone. Both incidents occurred approximately within hours of each other. Ms. McKinney had to have heard about the Campbell flap. That's when she decided this would be good publicity, even if its bad. CM has a history of attracting attention to herself. There have been other incidents with the police in the past. What makes it so suspicious is that a statement released by the McKinney's office sounded almost apologetic:

"Earlier today I had an unfortunate confrontation with a Capitol Hill Police Officer. It is traditional protocol that Capitol Hill Police Officers secure 535 Members of Congress, including 100 Senators. It is the expectation of most Members of Congress that Capitol Hill Police officers know who they are. I was urgently trying to get to an important meeting on time to fulfill my obligations to my constituents. Unfortunately, the Police Officer did not recognize me as a Member of Congress and a confrontation ensued. I did not have on my Congressional pin but showed the Police Officer my Congressional ID.
"I know that Capitol Hill Police are securing our safety, that of thousands of others, and I appreciate the work that they do. I deeply regret that the incident occurred. I have demonstrated my support for them in the past and I continue to support them now."

Now she sounds like she wants to file civil rights charges. Her lawyer said:

"Because she was assaulted and placed in impending fear of her safety, she responded. ... This case has just begun and we're going to fight, and we're going to use the U.S. Constitution."

Don't buy my theory? It is just as plausible as her contention that Bush and his administration knew about the 9-11 attacks in advance and profited directly from them. I think this story comes down to a Congressperson who will do anything to get publicity. Isn't she running for re-election in the fall?
