Independents Key to Democrat's Victory in November

If Democrats gain control of Congress they can thank Independent voters:
The independent voters surveyed said they plan to support Democratic candidates over Republicans by roughly 2 to 1 -- 59 percent to 31 percent -- the largest margin in any Post-ABC News poll this year. Forty-five percent said it would be good if Democrats recaptured the House majority, while 10 percent said it would not be. The rest said it would not matter.

The Democratic Party would be mistaken if they think support from Independents spells a long term trend. Its all about Bush and his disastrous war. Voters are dissastisfied by both parties:
Independent voters may strongly favor Democrats, but their vote appears motivated more by dissatisfaction with Republicans than by enthusiasm for the opposition party. About half of those independents who said they plan to vote Democratic in their district said they are doing so primarily to vote against the Republican candidate rather than to affirmatively support the Democratic candidate. Just 22 percent of independents voting for Democrats are doing so "very enthusiastically."

The Israelis are on the warpath again:
Israeli troops killed seven Palestinians in the Gaza Strip on Monday, one of the bloodiest days of fighting during a four-month offensive. The dead included a militant involved in rocket attacks on Israel, prompting Palestinian calls for revenge

They haven't seemed to have learned from the Lebanon fiasco. Using force against the Palestinians won't work. It will just create new generations of militants. It also serves to provide propaganda for Jihadists worldwide.

They found $100,000 dollars in his freezer. Nonetheless, voters in New Orleans might just reelect William Jefferson to Congress. The National press won't talk much about Jefferson since that would endanger the Democratic Party's chances of gaining control of Congress. But this case clearly demonstrates the power of incumbency. It shows how we've gotten the kind of rotten government we do. The same people who plan to reelect Jefferson are also the voters who give Congress a 20 percent approval

Politicians don't really speak up anymore about what's going on with the legal onslaught by gay groups. Some of us still think there is a cultural war going on. Unfortunate, much like the Iraq War, America is losing this one as well:
Transgender people yesterday won the right to use any bathroom they choose at MTA [NYC] rail stations after a woman who sued for that privilege reached an agreement with the transit agency.

The only people who's incomes are going up are the wealthy and politicians:
The proposed council hike from $90,000 to $112,500 a year is exactly what [NYC] Council Speaker Christine Quinn requested of the advisory commission.

No one remembers Steven Hatfill. He was falsely accused of being the anthrax attacks in 2001. Now he is suing. Mr. Hatfill wants to know who is the source of allegations made by the NY Times against himself. A judge in Virginia has determined that the Times does not have the right to help destroy someone's reputation in the pursuit of a story.
