Who Will Save Iraq?
Because of the war in Lebanon the press has chosen to downplay the worsening situation in Iraq. This might be convenient for Mr. Bush. His latest poll numbers show a drop again; due in large part to the fiasco in Iraq. It might be too cynical to accuse the neo-cons of trying to wag the dog with their war on Hezbollah. You would think they'd be more modest. Instead the language has become more belligerent. They are basically saying that Israel's war is America's. Unfortunately too many Americans are buying into this propaganda.
Bush's response to the rapidly deteriorating situation in Baghdad is to send more troops. This despite recent indications that we would be decreasing our military presence in Iraq. Now those troops that were supposed to be coming home have been told that they will have to serve an additional tour of duty. This is having a devastating impact on morale among our soldiers serving in Iraq. Mr. Bush is hardly concerned about that. The only thing that matters is the agenda of the neo-cons.
