Bush Attacks the Messenger

President Bush likes conflict. Now he has declared war on the NY Times. And it couldn't come at a better time for a administration, and political party, under siege for its failed war on terror. They want to distract your attention from the bad news coming from Iraq. So why not attack the messenger? The Republicans say: we are not losing its just the coverage that makes it seem like we are. Despite record casualties involving reporters, Bush and his underlings have made repeated references to the lazy press that doesn't go out and find positive stories on Iraq -- along with those missing WMDs.

Its not the first time Bush has criticized the Times for reporting on his administration's dubious intelligence gathering methods. This time around he has taken it a step further. He and and his heel-clicking Republicans have accused the paper of treason. An administration that has lied to get us into a war and trampled the U.S. Constitution as a pretext for fighting international terrorism, has the nerve to accuse others of treason.

Mr. Bush has a penchant for antagonism. And looking for a fight with the NY Times would be in his nature. But this time around he has gone too far. Its one thing to undermine established American democratic values, its another to attack the reporting of that sinister behavior. What next, ignoring the laws of our country altogether?
