Study: The World Dislikes America
A Pew Research Center study of 15 countries shows the world has a less than favorable view of America. What is particularly shocking is the 20 plus percent drop in support for the U.S., since 2000, from Western countries like Great Britain, Germany, France, and Spain. Three of those countries have a 39 percent or worse "favorable" opinion of America. Only Russia has increased its fondness for the U.S. since 2000 (37% to 43%).
Predictably, Muslim countries like Indonesia, Egypt and Pakistan (despite being an "ally" in the war on terror), have a poor view of us, mostly 30 percent. Surprisingly, Indonesia saw its support for the U.S. drop from 75% to 30% percent since 2000. No surprise from Jordan, with its large Palestinian population, although this country is considered an ally by the U.S. government. Only Fifteen percent in that country like us. Turkey, a Muslim country, although considered moderate, has shockingly seen its support drop from a majority to only 12%, worse than Jordan. Even Japan saw its view of America drop, although 63 percent still see us favorably. The Indian majority like America, with almost a majority of Chinese having a positive view. But given the amount of U.S. investment over there in those countries you would think it would be more. Those two countries are also the only ones in the study⁄poll that support the U.S. war on terror. Ten of 14 countries believe that the war in Iraq has made the world more dangerous. Almost all the countries do not think that Iran poses a "great danger" to the America.
Most of this hostility can be traced to the U.S.'s one-sided support for Israel and Bush's neo-fascist...excuse me, neo-con policies in the Middle East. The consequences of such hostility towards us does not bode well for world peace.
