Murdered for Wearing Shorts - Democracy in Iraq

Now they are killing each other in Iraq simply for wearing shorts. Doesn't sound like a place where democracy is going to take off anytime soon. The government there can't even finish creating a cabinet.

What a mess. Every time you look up some news organization is being ordered to turn over some kind of document. Most of the time it involves the Bushies. In this case Time is being ordered to fork over papers that might help Scooter Libby's defense. Speaking of the press. You won't hear too much about a scandal involving the press. This one involved Newsday, a New York paper, overstating of circulation figures so that they can cheat advertisers. This paper is owned by the giant Tribune Co.

In Bush's graduation speech at West Point he could've been talking about America:
"By standing with democratic reforms across a troubled region, we will extend freedom to millions who have not known it and lay the foundation for peace for generations to come."
Translation: We are spreading imperialism in the Middle East and supporting whatever non-democratic regimes supports us in that effort. Mr. Bush wants a society in where he can violate the law and then demand he not be held accountable:
"National Intelligence Director John Negroponte invoked the state secrets privilege on behalf of the administration, writing that disclosure of such information would cause 'exceptionally grave damage' to national security."

If the U.S. government won't build border fences to prevent the influx of illegal aliens, the Minutemen will. Americans are too impatient to wait for Washington to do something.

Nobel Peace Prize laureate Aung San Suu Kyi was told she would be imprisoned for another year by the Burmese rulers. It is an indication of how inept the UN and free world are obtaining the release of this true patriot. I guess we should be proud in the U.S. for being able to exercise the fundamental rights Ms. Kyi and gays in Russia don't enjoy.
