al Qaeda's Most Powerful Weapon: Heroin

It isn't an al Qaeda nuclear bomb that is the greatest threat to America, although that is a danger. The likely weapon of choice for Bin Laden is Heroin. And it explains why there is a Taliban resurgence in Afghanistan. This tragic country supplies 90 percent of the world's opium trade. And it accounts for one-third of Afghanistan's economy. Ironically, the Taliban had succeeded in suppressing the Opium industry when they were in power. Now the warlords, whom are motivated by profit, have brought it back. In the process, al Qaeda and the Taliban are also benefitting and are able to fund their war against U.S. forces in Afghanistan. This fact led the NATO commander in Europe to say this:
"It is not the resurgence of the Taliban but the linkage of the economy to drug production, crime, corruption and black market activities which poses the greatest danger for Afghanistan."

Therefore, expect to soon see Heroin on the streets of America as it once was. The war on drugs that has been essentially kept under control for years will once again become a crisis along with the crime that necessarily accompanies drug trafficking. And we can thank George Bush and his adventure in Iraq that has weakened the legitimate war in Afghanistan.
