Somalia: Deja vu All Over Again?
Is it possible George Bush never heard of Somalia before? Or at least saw the movie Black Hawk Down. Given his track record, this President might decide he wants to fight and defeat al Qaeda in Africa, because he certainly isn't doing it in the Middle East. He obviously didn't learn anything from Vietnam--for that matter, Kerry and McCain either. Its already been several days now since U.S. forces have been pursuing Qaeda fighters in Somalia. It will be interesting to see how long our forces will remain fighting in that country under the guise of pursuing those involved in terrorist attacks against Americans:
It would be too convenient that our fighting over in Somalia diverts attention from the fiasco which is Iraq and Afghanistan.
I wouldn't put it past this President to get us into another military fiasco. Congress needs to start taking interest in this matter and demand an exit date. It shouldn't be any more than a cleanup operation.
Attack helicopters strafed suspected al-Qaida fighters in southern Somalia on Tuesday, witnesses said, following two days of airstrikes by U.S. forces _ [sic] the first U.S. offensives in the African country since 18 American soldiers were killed here in 1993.
