Afghan Army Unfit to Fight

Here we are 5 years later and the Afghan army is essentially worthless:
The Afghan troops deployed here with the Canadians have fighting experience but are still a young force and can't yet be trusted with some of the more sophisticated weapons, their Western mentors say. The Afghans also lack experience in planning and logistics.

Not only can't they fight but are poorly armed:
Kowbandi [a Lt. Col in the Afghan army] complains that his unit has only half the men required, few weapons and old equipment. Some of their assault rifles jammed during the summer offensive, while barrels on others were bent. Recent rains left their dun-colored pickup trucks bogged down in thick mud.

Doesn't sound very promising. Especially since the war in Afghanistan has essentially been forgotten.

Even Bush's most loyal international supporters seem to agree that Iraq is a mess:
King Abdullah of Jordan, who will host a meeting between President Bush and Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki this week, said today that the situation in Iraq is quickly disintegrating and dramatic action is needed before the end of the year to unify the country.
