Pentagon Planning Iraq War Until 2010

Although Pentagon is claiming that their preparation plans do not suggest that the Iraq War will last until 2010, it does suggest that its not going well:
For planning purposes, the Army is gearing up to keep current troop levels in Iraq for another four years, a new indication that conditions there are too unstable to foresee an end to the war.

Bush has already said that he will pass along the Iraq quagmire onto his successor. Its starting to look a lot more like the Vietnam war. President Johnson passed his failure onto Nixon. Fifty-thousand deaths later the U.S. decided that it would be prudent to pull out. Do we wait until 50,000 Americans die fighting in a country where the people don't want us? If Hillary Clinton, John Kerry before, are any indication, that looks like what would happen. Both parties are two cowardly to do the right thing and bring our people back. They are victims of the idiotic argument that anyone talks about pulling out is guilty of being soft on terrorism by "cutting" and "running."

Although you still have some in the military who are naive enough believe in we are making progress. That's what NATO claims is happening in Afghanistan:
The number of attacks by Taliban guerrillas in their heartland in southern Afghanistan has fallen significantly since a big NATO military operation against the guerrillas, the alliance said on Tuesday.

Any military man who thinks that we can win in Afghanistan obviously doesn't know the history of that country. The Soviets were unable to defeat the Taliban and they had many more troops than NATO has.
