Darfur?! What's That? In 2004 it was described as the "world's worst humanitarian crisis." Here we are 2 years later and nothing has changed. It's only gotten worse. What is even more shocking than the genocide going on in Darfur, is the media's lack of interest in such an important event. The press is more interest in Madonna's controversial adopting of an Africa boy than the slaughter of thousands. A Google search turns up many news articles on the "material girl" than Darfur. In fact, Oprah and James Bond got almost as many results.
I wonder if race has anything to do with it. Or is it that reporters need spectacular videos? Certainly profits, or lack thereof, have something to do with it. Apparently there is no profit to be gained from Africans dying.
More Americans rank Iraq as the top priority of the new Democratic-controlled Congress, but nearly three out of five say the party does not have a plan to deal with the war.
