Iraq War: Pentagon Report Suggests Civil War

The Pentagon came close to admitting that the Iraq is degenerating into a civil war. The Bush gang likes to argue semantics and dispute that reality is not reality. Call it what you want - its a fiasco:
"Sectarian violence is spreading in Iraq and the security problems have become more complex than at any time since the U.S. invasion in 2003, a Pentagon report said Friday."

The report comes awful close to admitting to civil war:
"'Conditions that could lead to civil war exist in Iraq, specifically in and around Baghdad, and concern about civil war within the Iraqi civilian population has increased in recent months,' the report said. It is the latest in a series of quarterly reports required by Congress to assess economic, political and security progress."

But you still have these sycophant Generals, as in Vietnam, insisting that they are making progress against the insurgency:
"Col. Thomas Vail, commander of a 101st Airborne brigade operating in the mostly Shiite areas of eastern Baghdad, told reporters at the Pentagon on Friday that an intensified effort to root out insurgents and quell sectarian violence in the capital is bearing fruit, leading to a decrease in sectarian murders in recent days."

The numbers bare out the fact that the violence is getting worse. The number of Attacks from May 20th...
"...through Aug. 11, the average number of attacks per week against Americans and Iraqis was 792, up 24 percent from the previous period of Feb. 11 to May 19. The 792 figure was the highest for any counting period since the war began. The previous high was 641 in the Feb. 11 to May 19 period."

But despite the report, that idiot Bush, insists there is no civil war:
"A day after a Pentagon report described spreading sectarian violence and increasingly complex security problems in Iraq, President Bush painted a rosier picture."

This delusional President believes he can build support for the Iraq war:
"The president's radio remarks are part of a new White House offensive to build support for the Iraq war and for Republicans in the fall elections. This series of speeches was launched Thursday, with an address before an American Legion convention, and is to culminate September 19 with remarks before the U.N. General Assembly."

The public knows the truth about the failed war on terror:
"Five years after the attacks of Sept. 11, fully one-third of Americans think the terrorists may be winning, the poll suggests. Worries fed by the war in Iraq have spilled over into the broader campaign against terrorists who directly target the U.S."

In fact, the War in Iraq has made terrorism worse:
"Not everyone agrees the war in Iraq is central to the war on terror, as the Bush administration maintains. Six in 10 polled think there will be more terrorism in this country because the U.S. went to war in Iraq. Some feel strongly that the two wars are separate."
