Iraqi President Thinks 100,000 U.S. Troops Could Leave in '09
And around the same time the earth will open up and swallow both al Qaeda and the Iranian-backed insurgents. You do have to give credit to Talabani for supporting the creation of a Bosnia-type federal government:
Iraq's president thinks 100,000 U.S. troops could come home by the end of next year and also says he favors chopping up Iraq into three ethnic enclaves.
Referring to a nonbinding resolution passed by the U.S. Senate last month that called for dividing Iraq into Kurdish, Sunni and Shiite regions united under a central government, President Jalal Talabani said, "I think the resolution passed by the Senate is a very good one."
Talabani, a Kurd , could be expected to like such an idea - his Kurdish region in the north has been semiautonomous since before the war.
