Drug use Stabilized in '06; Ecstasy, LSD a Concern
The return of illegal drug abuse is inevitable; we are returning to the bad old days. We are already seeing the escalation of the drug wars along the Mexican border. In addition, bumper crops in Afghanistan (another failure of Bush's war on terror) guarantees cheap heroin coming into the United States. The biggest for the return of drug abuse will be a declining economy, which also means less resources for law enforcement, and accompanying crime. Greater drug use means more crime:

The rate of illicit drug use remained stable last year in the United States, but there could be a resurgence in the use of ecstasy and LSD among young adults, the federal government reported Thursday.

Most adult drug users in the United States work, but the rate of drug use is much higher among the unemployed. The rate of drug usage for the unemployed is 18.5%. It's 8.8% for full-time workers.
