Ben Affleck: Romney will be Republican Nominee in '08; Dems Cowards
I did not know that Ben Affleck was so politically astute:
Right on, Ben:
“Gone, Baby, Gone” director Ben Affleck, who tried mightily - but unsuccessfully - to get Sen. John Kerry elected to the White House, said he expects ex-Gov. Mitt Romney to be the Republican nominee in 2008.
Chatting about the upcoming presidential race on the season finale of “Real Time with Bill Maher,” the Cambridge homey said he thinks the GOP will end up with Romney because the ex-gov looks good, has nice hair - and the Republicans really don’t have anyone else.
Right on, Ben:
Affleck, a lifelong Democrat who was identified as “actor/activist” on the show, also had some harsh words for his own party , launching an f-bomb-laden tirade against the pols who “caved in” on the president’s Iraq spending bill.
“These (bleeping) people,” he said. “This is the (bleeping) problem with that. Democrats live in fear of basically being called cowards,” he said.
Affleck surmised that the Demmies were afraid to demand timelines for troop withdrawal from Iraq in the spending bill because the president would slam them while they were away for the Memorial Day weekend.
“While they were on vacation they were afraid of being criticized,” he said. “So . . . they sacrificed their core political beliefs. And they wonder why people call them (bleeping) weak.”
