Bush Undermining Palestinian Democracy

The U.S., not only doesn't respect the democratic wishes of the Palestinians but is trying to undermine it:

The Bush administration will provide $86 million to help security forces loyal to Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, expanding U.S. involvement in his struggle with Hamas, according to documents seen on Friday.

The current civil war among the Palestinians is being fomented by both the Israelis and the neocon controlled Bush administration. It is a clear attempt to overthrow the democratically elected Hamas government. This is in stark contrast to the repeated insistence by this president that he is interested in furthering democracy in the Middle East.
