The Secret to Long LIfe: Education
The argument that education is the salvation of the world is once re-affirmed by this article. It seems to affect everything. When human beings begin to realize that education solves most problems then that's when we begin to solve those problems:
What those social scientists who keep trying to control population growth in the third world don't understand, is that increasing literacy in country lowers the birth rate. Stop trying to force family planning on the poor of the world, unless you are a eugenist. The solution is clear.

Here we are 5 years after 9-11 and we are no closer to being prepared for disaster. I wonder how much of the resources needed for greater preparedness went towards a war unrelated to terrorism in Iraq:

Massachusetts, the only state where same-sex marriage is legal, took a first step toward possibly banning it Tuesday when legislators voted to advance a constitutional amendment defining marriage as the union between a man and a woman.

Only six of 75 U.S. metropolitan areas won the highest grades for their emergency agencies' ability to communicate during a disaster, five years after the September 11 terrorist attacks, according to a federal report obtained Tuesday by The Associated Press.
A draft portion of the report, to be released Wednesday, gives the best ratings to Washington; San Diego, California; Minneapolis-St. Paul, Minnesota; Columbus, Ohio; Sioux Falls, South Dakota; and Laramie County, Wyoming.
That list did not include New York, did it?
