Press Misses Point on Hussein Execution

The Press' hysteria over Saddam's undignified execution is much ado about nothing. And it also dangerous for our troops. By the press focusing on how mean the executioners were to Mr.Hussein, they are making worse an already inflamed situation. There is no question that the Iraq government miscalculated with the timing of the hanging. Nonetheless, considering the horrors that the "Butcher of Baghdad" perpetrated on the Shiite during his reign, a little taunting from those present at the execution was understandable. The mainstream press should be focusing on Bush's disastrous policies in Iraq. There's the real scandal.

If that weren't bad enough, why do need to overwhelmed seemingly by all the major networks with the funeral of former President Ford. Why do we have to hear talking heads tell over and over again that Mr.Ford was a nice man. It is important that Americans honor the memory of a President who is deceased; but, Americans should not be forced to watch a flag-draped coffin for hours on end. It should be a choice. There is nothing wrong with watching the event on tape broadcast later on. Instead, all the news channels and networks decided to cover a solemn event with reporters telling the same story we've heard ad nauseam for days now. This kind of coverage is consistent with a media that beats everything to death. They all have to get into the act. And it ain't about honoring a former President. [C-Span didn't let me down]
