Buchanan: Christians Disillusioned with GOP

Its no secret that this president doesn't think much about the Christian right, the Republican Party's most supportive members. Therefore its no surprise that the GOP base is unhappy with the party:
Buchanan said, Christians around the country are more dissatisfied and disillusioned with the Republican Party than ever before. While they won't change their vote over Haggard, there's a sense that core Republicans have been let down, and there are a lot of problems with the Republican Party, Buchanan told "Exclusiva," ABC News Now's Hispanic news program.

"There's the spending orgy, the arrogance of power, for me," he said. "The war in Iraq, failure to protect our border, hurting the working class in Ohio, for example, the list goes on and on. We're more dissatisfied with the Republican Party than we've ever been."

ABC news pointed out that its traditional for a president with a low approval rating to see his party lose seats in the house:
  • 1966, Johnson's approval rating, 44%; lost seats: 47
  • 1982, Reagan approval rating, 42%; lost seats: 26
  • 1994, Clinton approval rating, 46%; lost seats: 52
  • 2006, Bush approval rating, 40%; lost seats: ?
