100,000 Files on Immigrants -- some Illegal -- Have disappeared

Your government at work:
The GAO discovered that of the naturalization applications adjudicated in 2005, about 30,000 --or about 4 percent of them -- may have been adjudicated without access to the aliens' files.

An investigation by the Government Accountability Office revealed that the US government processed about 30,000 citizenship applications even though the office of the US Citizenship Immigration Services acknowledged they were missing 110,000 A-Files or alien files.

San Diego:
A summary of the San Diego audit described the number of misplaced or lost “alien files,” or A-files, as “staggering.” Most of those files – 11,731 of the local office's 56,092 – are missing because they were not adequately tracked when received or transferred to other offices, according to the report.

Our government is essentially assisting the next 9-11 terrorists:
The other senator who requested the GAO report was Susan Collins, R-Maine, head of the Senate Homeland Security Committee. She noted that some of the Sept. 11, 2001, hijackers entered the country legally, disappearing until the terrorist attacks.

She called it “unthinkable” that the U.S. immigration system could still grant citizenship to a potential terrorist “simply because they can't find the person's file.”
