Study: America not Prepared for Disasters

Keep this mind as Hurricane season starts to rev up or everytime Bush brags about his achievements in the war on terror:
"Most American cities and states remain unprepared for catastrophes, a government analysis concludes, calling the shortcomings in emergency planning a cause 'for significant national concern.'"

The Dems want to rid themselves of a major corruption scandal in time for the elections. They've stripped Congressman William Jefferson (no relation to Bill Clinton, despite a similar propensity for corruption) of his committee assignment. One of the biggest issues in the fall would be the bribery scandals plaguing the Republican Party. The Democrats will have to work hard to hide all of their skeletons.

What is the Congress really doing about the War in Iraq:

"In this competitive election year in which control of the U.S. House of epresentatives is up for grabs, both parties want to stake out a position on the war hat they hope will resonate with voters."

Winning the war or keeping American soldiers from dying needlessly is -- if you'll pardon the pun -- a casualty of war.

The President can point to those documents found in Iraq that show a waning insurgency to defend his stay the course argument. This might also explain the Senate's vote.

Can it get more obscene than a Catholic Bishop trying to sell a parish so that he could pay off a victim of sexual assault as part of a legal settlement.

What's the point of making $30 billion if your going to spend the rest of your life giving it away to charity. Why not give some of that wealth to the employees who made that fortune for you in the first place. By the way, I'm not advocating socialism. I'm talking about giving workers stocks as part of their salary. This would increase productivity and create a market for your product. This is called common sense.

Law enforcement has won a major victory with a Supreme Court that allows police to enter an apartment without knocking. Of course, the press is going to slant it to suggest a terrible violation of civil liberties.

Isn't nice of Hooters to give back $200 spent on a Champagne tab with taxpayer dollars somehow given to them by FEMA.

What a noble concept: the U.S. exhibiting moral leadership in the worldwide struggle against poverty. And if we don't we might cease to be a superpower.
