Poll: Despite Surge Americans Still Oppose Iraq War
If the surge is working the American people haven't learned about it yet. They oppose the war and the oppose the man responsible for this tragedy.
In the answer to the Quinnipiac poll question (August 16 result), "Do you think going to war with Iraq was the right thing for the United States to do or the wrong thing?": Right, 35%;Wrong, 59%. That is worse than right after the last election, in November.
As the question, "Do you approve or disapprove of the way George W. Bush is handling the situation with Iraq?": Approve, 29%;Disapprove, 67%. That's higher than in June (25%). But still lower than last November (30%).
And the American people still support leaving Iraq, unlike Bush: "Do you support or oppose Congress setting a time-table for withdrawing all United States troops from Iraq?": Support, 55%;Oppose, 40%. That's higher than in May and June.
But the public also doesn't like the job the Congress is doing, Democrats in charge not withstanding: Approve, 20%;Disapprove, 70%. That is the lowest grade since maybe ever.
