My Advice to President Bush: Stall - Press Coming to the Rescue
All the news lately has been bad for Mr.Bush. Even his own dad has turned against him. But all shall pass - Soon. The press is getting bored and want a new story. Iraq is getting old.
Mr.President you need something to divert attention. Hurricane season failed to bring the necessary disaster that would've changed the subject. But the last time we had Katrina. That didn't help your stature any.
Another terrorist attack would help. The last one five years ago made you a hero without you even lifting a finger. The problem is, you've done such a great job fighting terrorism, al Qaeda is incapable of attacking the U.S. The British didn't help by thwarting a massive attack before several months ago.
The fighting in Darfur is a good bet. You could call for action -- no troops, though -- and shame the Press into covering the story. The Press has been shameful in ignoring the horrific events in Africa. You could say that the genocide over there is even worse than Iraq. Why aren't you covering it, guys? Have a group of activists (preferably from the black community) who want to do something. You could put the new Democratic majority on the defensive by calling for aid to Africa. That would force Democrats in Congress to speak up which would then lead the pro-Democratic press to cover Darfur.
If all else fails, bomb Iran. You could try making the same case against Iran that you did with Iraq in 2002. Maybe the press will refuse to ask the tough questions they did the last time. Have the new fall guy, Robert Gates, to parade dubious photos of nuclear reactors that are turning out bombs paraded before the UN. That might not go over so well with that organization. But the American people don't give a damn about the UN. All that matters is the deception. Have FOX News do stories about the ties between Iran and al Qaeda. But if you bomb Iran you'll have to go after Syria. Those two countries work hand-in-hand. But ask the Israelis to take out the Syrians. They want revenge over Lebanon, anyway.
The public and press will forget about Iraq just like they've forgotten about Afghanistan.
