Rumsfeld Calls Afghanistan 'Big Success'

Is this guy still drinking the same water Bush is obviously consuming? Then he has the nerve to criticize the Iraqi government. No one ever said those neocons don't have b****s. They look straight in the face of a pig and see a beautiful woman. Maybe if Mr.Rumsfeld were still the Secretary of Defense things would be going much better. I doubt, though, Rummy saw that CNN report this past weekend showing that the Taliban is getting stronger, largely from the profits they make from the only cash crop in Afghanistan--poppy (i.e., opium, heroin):
In an interview billed as his first since leaving the top Pentagon post, Donald Rumsfeld calls Afghanistan "a big success," but says U.S. efforts in Iraq are hampered by the failure of Iraq's government to establish a foundation for democracy.

"In Afghanistan, 28 million people are free. They have their own president, they have their own parliament. Improved a lot on the streets," Rumsfeld says in the October issue of GQ magazine.

Try asking the women of Afghanistan if they think they are really free.

It requires competent political leadership in Washington. Our military has done its job in Afghanistan, despite not having enough troops, since they are all in Iraq:
"In a very real sense, the American military cannot lose a battle, they cannot lose a war," he tells the magazine. "On the other hand, they can't win the struggle themselves. It requires diplomacy, it requires economic assistance, it requires a range of things that are well beyond the purview of the Department of Defense."
