Congress Useless in Stopping Bush War Mongering

Democratic majority or not, the Senate couldn't even agree on a pointless, non-binding resolution that would've been a no-confidence vote on Bush's disastrous war:
A bipartisan resolution repudiating President George W. Bush's decision to send 21,500 more troops to Iraq failed to advance in the U.S. Senate on Monday, dealing a serious setback to critics of the war.

The resolution needed 60 votes before the 100-member Senate could begin debate, but it got 49, with 47 voting against. Although it would not have been binding on the president, the measure was the first serious effort in Congress to confront Bush over the unpopular Iraq war.

This President will probably view the Senate vote as a victory. And that is about the only thing he's won lately. He'll probably think he can get what he wants on the budget. Just because he's special:
Bush asked the U.S. Congress, now run by his Democratic Party foes, to approve defense spending of $622 billion -- much of it for the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan -- as he unveiled a $2.9 trillion budget request for the 2008 fiscal year.

Even more money for Iraq may be needed, he warned.
