The Media Fiddles While America Burns

You turn on the TV and open the newspaper and what are the top stories: Miss USA scandal, missing mountain climbers, and basketball brawls. Its not like there is a shortage of serious and important news. In fact, the world is going up in flames. We shouldn't be getting constant reporting on missing climbers. We should be getting wall to wall coverage of not only the Iraq War but the civil wars breaking out in Lebanon and Israel. The press should be demanding from the President an explanation on why he is ignoring the will of the people and the judgement of his generals in sending more Americans to their deaths in Iraq.

For that matter, they might've spent more time asking why this White House chooses to not tell the American people that the First Lady had surgery for skin cancer. They should be questioning the judgement of a President who ineptly tries to cover up the fact that his wife had a non-embarassing medical procedure done. Shouldn't they be asking whether George Bush has become detached from reality? Is he leading us to catastrophe? Serious stuff.

Yesterday it was reported that the serious crime rate was going up. Today no mention. Isn't that a report that should be all the talk? Not as far as the press is concerned.
