Is the Clinton Campaign Unraveling?
While the Clinton dirty tricks squad are hard at work trying to find dirt on Obama, they've pulled out their number 1 weapon, Bill Clinton, to try and convince people that Hillary, the Washington insider, is really an agent for change. He cites a conversation that supposedly occurred early on in their relationship:
Mr. Clinton said that, early on in their relationship, he told Hillary that she should “dump” him and take a job at a big law firm and run for public office, because those were perches more often held by change-makers.
“And she laughed at me and said, first ‘I love you, and second, I’m never going to run for anything because I’m too hard-headed,’” Mr. Clinton said.
Yeah, sure. That conversation happened. I don't think the Clinton's know the difference between fiction and the truth. But, the bottom line is Bill isn't running for President, Hillary is. Maybe that's why Ms.Clinton is taking credit for a failed health care proposal during her husband's presidency:
“She has taken the rap for some of the problems we had with health care the last time that were far more my fault than hers,” Mr. Clinton said, speaking today in the town of Glenwood.
When asked for his take on the former president’s assessment, Senator Barack Obama grinned as he walked down the sidewalk in this south-central Iowa town. After pausing for a few seconds, he said: “I’m not going to dispute his characterization of these problems.”
“All I know is that part of the record she’s running on is having worked on health care,” he said, “so it’s kind of hard to gauge if one of her claims is to have experience in this issue to then suggest that somehow she doesn’t have anything to do with the fact that it didn’t work.”
I don't think Billary counted on Oprah being part of the Obama campaign and see how she's outshone Mr.Clinton:
It was a staggering sight. Upwards of 29,000 people at a political rally. And the Democratic primary in South Carolina is not until Jan. 26.
The Double O Express — Oprah for Obama — drew what is easily the biggest crowd at a campaign event, for any candidate, so far this season. It may have helped that the day was unseasonably warm, above 70 degrees, and gorgeously sunny. But this size crowd is rare even for a general election in the fall. (JFK drew about 35,000 for a Labor Day rally in 1960; get to work, Caucus readers, and tell us if you know of a bigger campaign rally without an incumbent president.)
In fact, it seems the Clinton's can't do anything right. All the news for them lately has been scandalous. Even the dirty tricks are backfiring. Or were they just caught:
Hillary Rodham Clinton's campaign on Sunday requested the resignation of a second Iowa volunteer coordinator who forwarded a hoax e-mail saying Barack Obama is a Muslim possibly intent on destroying the United States.
Obama is a member of the United Church of Christ and says he has never been a Muslim, but false rumors attempting to tie him to Islamic jihadists are circulating on the Internet.
"Let us all remain alert concerning Obama's expected presidential Candidacy," read the e-mail. "Please forward to everyone you know. The Muslims have said they Plan on destroying the US from the inside out, what better way to start than at The highest level."
The Clinton campaign has decried the rumors as offensive and outrageous, and last week forced volunteer Jones County coordinator Judy Rose to resign after learning that she forwarded a such an e-mail on Nov. 21. But it turns out Rose wasn't the only one.
Linda Olson, a volunteer coordinator in Iowa County, had forwarded a similar version on Oct. 5, without comment, to 11 people. One of the recipients was Ben Young, a regional field director for Democrat Chris Dodd's campaign, who provided a copy to The Associated Press on Sunday.
