Newsweek: Bin Laden’s Former Bodyguard Speaks
From Newsweek:

He [the bodyguard, Al Bahri] recalls having met several of the 9/11 hijackers in Afghanistan and says he knew Muhammad Atta fairly well—although he did not know they had been chosen for that operation, nor that such an operation was planned. "I might have been one of them, without any hesitation, I would have gone if asked," he says. "We knew something big was coming, but we didn't know what it was."
[...]Al Bahri describes bin Laden as a calm person, very soft-spoken, much given to reciting verses from the Qur'an and from poetry, nearly all of it jihadi. The only thing that seems to really rile bin Laden up is mention of America, according to Al Bahri. "I think from the very beginning of his childhood he hated America," he says. "I don't know why. He won't even drink a Pepsi." Al Bahri had already broken some out for his guests and himself; "We could never drink this around the sheik," he said.
[...]he maintains that all four of bin Laden's wives are living with him wherever he is, along with all of his minor children; according to Al Bahri, who can actually name all of them and specify their ages. Bin Laden had eight sons and six daughters when Al Bahri left him six years ago. "He's a real family man, and a great father to his sons." The three eldest sons are in Saudi Arabia, he says, but the others are in hiding with their father.
[...]"an Afghan cook came to the sheik crying and weeping, and said, 'I gave the information to the agents of the Americans'," about the location of their Khost base. "We wanted to kill him," Al Bahri says, "but Osama said to let him go. Osama was a human before anything."
